  • I can’t get on my FB…it says that my site is temporarily out because of some site work.  But it looks like other people are being able to get on.  Sheesh…it is very annoying.  Shows how much FB has become a part of my life, I guess.

  • It is 9 am here in north Houston and we have made it through the worst of Hurricane Ike…I think.  The wind is still gusting heavily and rain is falling.  The power went out at 2:51 am and David & I got up.  He went out and fired up the generator.  We actually had satellite tv until 7:30 this morning.  We think something must’ve happened to our dish, but we haven’t been able to go out and look yet to see.  We have lost several trees – thank God that none of them hit our house.  We do have one tree that has uprooted and fallen on our chain link fence.  Right now the fence is the only thing holding it up.  If it goes, it will possibly damage our next door neighbors back patio and possibly some of their roof.  They say that we have another 2 to 3 hours of this.  Once the rain stops we will upload some pictures.  Love to all.

  • We are enjoying our special time with Valerie, Jason, and Jonah.  They arrived yesterday morning bright and early.  Jonah did great on the flight but he was a very tired baby most of the day yesterday.  Getting up and leaving on a long trip really messed his schedule up.  Even so, he is such a good baby.  Valerie and I went to get our hair cut yesterday and took Jonah with us.  He slept the whole time Valerie was getting her hair done.  He woke up when it was my turn.  Then she and I went to Connie’s house for her debut Mary Kay party.  It was fun.  Valerie was very interested in the business so we met Connie and her director, Jessica for coffee this morning to discuss it further.  After that, we came back home and my mom and dad arrived for our meet Jonah party.  By 6 pm we had about 27 people here eating a fabulous brisket that David and Papa Elbie made with potato salad and beans.  It was a very special time for all of my side of the family and some very special friends of Jason and Valerie’s to come and meet Jonah.  We still have two more days with them.  I know it will go way too fast but I am enjoying every single second!  Here are some pictures:

  • Last night David and I were able to log on to Skype and use our webcam to visit with Jason, Valerie, and Jonah.  It was so amazing.  Technology has come so far.  It’s not as good as being there, but when you live so far apart, it’s awesome.  Jonah has grown alot since we were in Florida in June.  I can’t wait to see him on Friday.  It’s going to be a fun weekend!

Valerie posted this picture on her xanga…hope she doesn’t mind if I post it on mine…

  • I am so enjoying my lazy summer days off!  I think I’m getting my days and nights mixed up…staying up late…sleeping in late!  It’s wonderful!

I’ve been walking 1 1/2 miles on the treadmill every day trying to lose some of the weight/flab I’ve gained back since the fall.  So far nothing…well, maybe a pound…

Jason, Valerie, and Jonah are coming here in 8 days!  I cannot wait to put my arms around that baby again!  We will be having a gathering of family and close friends so that they can meet Jonah for the first time.  Expect to see lots of pictures after that!

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer!

  • So I don’t know what’s gotten into me, but I have been cooking up a storm lately.  I’ve looked up recipes on line and made some really great salads and stuff.  I’ve had so much fun.  I bet I’ve cooked more this week than I did the entire last school year!

We are going to my sister’s house in College Station tomorrow for the 4th.  Ed is smoking a brisket and some ribs; Janis is making a potato salad; Mom is making a fruit salad; I am taking a black bean salad and a ‘flag’ cake.  I think I’ve made this for the past two 4th of July holidays.  Then tonight I made a homemade blueberry sauce for our pound cake.  It was very yummy!  Here is a picture of the flag cake.  Happy 4th of July!
